I just read the story about parents who coddle too much (http://www.newsweek.com/id/133103). I don't consider being concerned about my child's safety "coddling", but I do see the point of the story, which states that, statistically, this country is a safer place than when we were growing up. When I was younger my brother and I roamed (no helmets or seat belts) all over without Mom hovering over us. I can't imagine letting my son do the same. Should parents let go just a bit or are we doing the right thing in being protective?
