Fourth Grade is the traditional start of music education in the school systems including an instrument.

Are you allowing your child to participate?  Renting or purchasing an instrument?  Let us know your thoughts, tips and tactics for maintaining active, wellrounded children with out breaking the bank or loosing sanity!!!

As a "mom of many" i just knew that purchasing a low cost used instrument from a reputable dealer would pay off... my third child, 2nd daughter is now beginning flute, just as my oldest dropped it due to sports and foreign language have crowded out her schedule both in school and for at home practice!

My son plays the drums, although in school it's percussion.  We purchased a drum set (whew) that he plays everyday, and had to purchase a percussion kit for school.  Although it is costly, he loves it and sticks by it.  He is in band in school.

Music education, to me, is essential.  My youngest, who is 9, is going to take up the piano.

Did I mention they are both children with special needs??   

I honestly think that Music (playing or singing) is part of our children education, I also would like that the public school offer to teach instruments since they are in Kindergarden. I have a 10 years old who started to play piano since he was 7 .He loved to play and He also play the drum at school.My other 2 boys are doing the same because the see the good ejemplo of his brother. But the most important thing: DO NOT PUSH them to play what YOU would like them to play, let them try differents options and you will see that they will ENJOY to play any instrument.
