    Public v Private

Just curious about your experiences/opinions between public v private education for this age group. I understands some areas in the HV have better programs then others so I'd be interested in hearing what you liked and/or didnt like about your experience. What would you do differently, if anything?

Last but not least what specifc schools/programs are regarded highly based on your experience and that of other parents in the area.

    Thanks

    Re: Public v Private

    hello again,

most schools for this age group are private..

here is where the religious schools seem to do an excellent job at teaching kids to get along very well and create an environment that is condusive to learning....

public preschool is just now creeping into the public schools like valley central...

my "indictment" of some local "religious" schools is that the culture among many of the parents is that their family/child is somehow too good for public education and/or must be sheilded from secular influences.  My own children were beginning to have disdain for their public school counterparts at town recreation opportunities, sports etc... so much for teaching charity and humility!!!  It wasn't really that virtue wasn't being taught... it was that the school was being used as a "private" school, not a "religious" school.   Unfortunately this school was not unique...

Additionally, funds were a constant issue as well & the public school just had so many more resources... both necessary programs for my special education child and nice extras for the other kids!  Hope this is useful to you... I don't regret the years we spent at the first school, but I am glad we made the switch when we did...
