    Sick care?

Hi parents - I'm wondering what you do when your child is sick, can't go to daycare, and both parents absolutely have to work?

    Thanks.

    Re: Sick care?

I don't have family nearby, so I have that problem as well.

I'm blessed to have an older friend who lives alone (near my parents age) who i can call on occasionally in these situations & not feel like i'm spreading germs to a whole family or daycare community.  She adores my kids and has "been there" herself & doesn't get upset over things that some others sitters would, like a runny nose or fever.  Age does give greater perspective!  Perhaps, if you don't have family near enough to help in these situations, you could cultiivate a similar surrogate-grandparent relationship for your child, either with someone in your neighborhood or faith community, it would benefit all concerned.

    Good luck!

I'm mostly still a stay at home mom, I do have a few friends for whom I provide emergency child care service.  Ask among your kids' friends if there is someone who is willing to help you when these situations occur.  Try to either balance it out by watching their kids on the weekend when you have more time & perhaps she'd like some "grown-up" time or a payment schedule decided ahead of time.

Thank you for using our forums & i truly hope you get some great ideas.
